The mission of PCH is to provide a safe, secure, nurturing and loving home environment for children who are in need of care and protection. The home is a place where they can develop a sense of belonging and begin to repair the hurt and misfortune that has beset them. The home shall provide substitute family care for a child until such time as the family of the child is able to provide adequate care to meet his or her basic needs or arrangements made for his or her custody or other permanent placement. Importance is placed on the duplication of the positive aspects of a typical family environment as well as exposure to extraordinary experiences that enhance their growth and encourage healthy overall development. Academics, religion and discipline are areas of priority, along with instilling good morals and a sense of personal responsibility.
20 miles from Cap-Haitien, in a village called Caracol, stands a crooked shack made from a variety of discarded timbers and has a leaky tin roof. Inside this small shack live anywhere from 20-25 children who are either fatherless, motherless, abandoned, or a combination of the above. The children are cared for by a frail middle aged women and her husband. They do the best they can with some assistance from a small group of woman from the neighborhood, but most days their best is not enough. For many years it meant some days without food and others without any proper shelter or a place to sleep. In an area that is devastated by immense poverty very few get by on what they have. With no food, no shelter and no education these children have little hope for decent futures! Since October 2008 a group of people from Turks & Caicos Islands are working together to provide a loving, secure and healthy environment to those children. They deserve nothing less.
